Attendance in court

Under Section 9 of the Criminal Justice Act the contents of a written statement are admissible without the witness attending court to give oral evidence, however, there are occasions when the witness is required to attend and give oral evidence in court, for example when the defendant pleads not guilty to the offence.  When this occurs the witness could face cross examination.  The AES officer responsible for the witness statement will  attend court when required to do so.
